How to survival over winter

Last winter was one of the coldest, wettest, and longest that I can remember, and as a lifelong , I think that’s saying a lot! What I found most difficult about the extreme weather last year was adapting to it despite not being properly prepared for it.  Well this year, meteorologists are predicting that winter will be equally tough, and this time around I’m going to make sure to be ready for it!  Today I’m unveiling my winter survival tips with Woman Within

First things first: you need to have a good winter jacket!  I recommend choosing a style that is down filled and has a hood.  The filling will offer maximum warmth and a hood will shield you from snow, sleet and rain should you ever be caught without an umbrella.  I also like winter jackets to be slightly longer in length, hitting somewhere below my rear and above my knees.  Again, this will offer a ton of warmth and insolation.  Lastly I recommend looking for something that is weather proof.  When it’s snowing, the last thing you want to be worried about is ruining your coat! The piece that hits all the above marks for me is this down filled parka.

Next up is a good pair of boots!  You don’t realize how important it is to have a pair of weatherproof footwear until you get caught in slush and ruin your shoes and pants.  Or even worse, until you slip on a patch of ice.  I love these weather resistant boots for winter.  Not only are they waterproof, they also offer tons of warmth and insolation and have a textured sole to prevent you from slipping!

Last on my winter survival guide shopping list is a pair of gloves and a hat!  In extremely cold temperatures it’s imperative that you cover your fingers to avoid frostbite.  And it’s true what you’re mother told you, heat does escape from your head, so wearing a hat will keep your body temperature up and will also protect your ears.  I love this matching set of hat and gloves for winter!

Early Winter Favorites

The last leaves of fall is going away. Weather  becomes colder and it's time to say hello Winter 2014.

Here are my favorites for the month!

1) A hot cup of coffee: A beloved hot coffee cups is a wonderful thing I suggest running out and sampling what the season has to offer immediately! A novel and a little bitter coffee make me fall in the winter early afternoon.

2) Light weight sweaters: For a few sweet weeks we can wear our favorite lightweight sweaters without having to pile layers and jackets on top of them.  Enjoy it while it lasts and pair yours back to denim and booties for a chic and simple daytime look!  My absolute favorite for this weather is light sweater!

3) The return of Fall TV: No more reruns and waiting, September means new programming to fall in love with and new seasons of our favorite shows!  Which new series are you most excited to get hooked on?

4) Outdoor walks: With the opportunity to take a long stroll and not feel like I’m suffocating from heat or freezing my tush off, it is the time to get your walk on before snow and rain make all things are worse.  The crisp air and sunshine are good for the soul and of course a little outdoor activity is always a good thing!

5)  Light nail colors:  After several months of  fall colors , I’m excited to embrace some colorful tones on my digits! Special reds and light green are a favorite of mine to make bright winter day.

From deep within I hear her name
She wishes to be brought to light
Her life lies fettered and betrothed unto night
For years I did not heed her calls
It echoed in those cavernous walls
The chasm I dug within my mind
I buried her therein for so much time

Her sadness is heard in mourningful wails
From within my soul they do doth hail
I cannot answer her call I fear
For I shall lose what I hold dear

I look in towards her and can clearly see
That she is there looking back at me
I gaze upon her reflection clear
She looks backs at me and sheds a tear

I know this woman that I doth see
From her prison cell she smiles unto me
She no longer screams and tells me why
Imploring that she can no longer live a lie

I ask her what is it that I may do
To help her be both alive and true
To both herself and unto me
What can I do to set her free?

What I then hear her utter so clear
Her answer has me shudder in fear
Her words unspoken were oh so true
"For you to free me, I must be you"
